I thought it was about time to make a new muxtape. To that end, I had a couple of ideas for new mixes, but I decided to put those on hold since the Fourth of July is now upon us. I thought, why not make a mix to coincide with the holiday, and I found that the simplest way for me to do this – in an apolitical way (with the exception of the first song, and maybe the second) – with the music I currently have was by only selecting songs that have the word “free” in the title. And that is exactly what I did. You can hear the end result, as always, at abetaunit.muxtape.com.

Apologies to all you Skynyrd fans out there. Free Bird did not make the cut. And I opted for Nick Drake’s preferable, yet lesser known track, Free Ride, as opposed to the classic rock hit of the same name by The Edgar Winter Group. Nevertheless, there were still a few classic hits I couldn’t resist putting in the mix, such as Tom Petty’s much-played tune referenced in the title of this post, however the version I included might come as a surprise.
